McKenzie Construction Corporation
Awarded New Virginia Beach Middle School Project
McKenzie Construction Corporation has received a construction contract for the
new Virginia Beach Middle School to be built in the Beach borough of the city.
The new building will be a three story, 185,000 sf state-of-the-art facility
with an architectural style characterized as a blend of "Beach Cottage" and
"Craftsman" style houses of the Old Beach neighborhood. The cost of
construction is approximately $36 million. The school will house approximately
924 students comprising of the Virginia Beach Middle School zone students along
with about 200 division-wide middle school students currently enrolled in the
Old Donation Center for the Gifted & Talented Visual Arts Program. The firm of
HBA Architecture & Interior Design of Virginia Beach provided the design work
for the building.
Construction will begin immediately with an anticipated completion by August,
2010.

McKenzie Construction Receives Contractor of the Year
Award
Robert H. McKenzie, Jr., president of McKenzie Construction
Corporation, has announced that the firm has received the 2007 Contractor of the
Year award from the American Public Works Association. The firm was honored at
the APWA Virginia/DC/Maryland 2007 Chapter Conference on May 17th,
2007 at the Marriott City Center in Newport News.

Corporation was nominated for this award by the City of Norfolk for the work
McKenzie Construction did on the new World of Wonders Children’s Adventure
Garden in the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, which also won an award for best
Project of the Year. The first of its kind in the region, World of Wonders (WOW)
provides a state-of-the-art exhibit for children to learn about the world,
plants, gardening, and the environment while participating in fun activities.
The 3.5 acre garden involved
the conversion of a stretch of semi-wooded land to a garden equipped with
amenities for children of all ages. Upon entering WOW, visitors step into a
plaza with water fountains, bubble stations, foggers, and jet sprays. Wetlands,
learning circles, forests, tribal ruins, rock formations, and a dirt factory are
also featured.

McKenzie Construction Awarded Brookwood Elementary Project
McKenzie Construction Corporation has been selected to construct the new Brookwood Elementary School for the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. The 81,000 square foot, $12,588,000.00 facility will replace the existing school which will be demolished at the end of the current school year. The new facility will be completed in October of 2007.
In the past five years, McKenzie Construction has completed over a dozen educational facilities the contract value of which exceeds $48,000,000.00.

Breaks Ground on Spring Branch Church Phase Two
McKenzie Construction Corporation has broken ground on Phase Two of the Spring Branch Church on Great Neck Road in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The project consists of a new two story addition constructed on top of the existing educational wing of the Church. The $3,000,000.00 project will add approximately 25,000 square feet to the educational wing and renovate the existing first floor of the facility.
McKenzie Construction completed the Sanctuary and existing portion of the educational area in February of 2001 at a cost of $4,048,000.00. Plans are currently being developed for Phase Three of the complex which will provide a new Atrium and Youth Center.

Awarded Windsor Woods Project
McKenzie Construction Corporation has been selected to construct the new Windsor Woods Elementary School for the Virginia Beach City Public Schools. The 81,000 square foot, $13,300,000.00 facility will be completed in December of 2007. The existing school will be demolished once the new facility is occupied.
In the past five years, McKenzie Construction has completed over a dozen educational facilities with a combined contract value exceeding $48,000,000.00.

R. Keith Hathaway joins McKenzie Construction Corporation
Robert "Bob" Norton promoted to President of North Carolina Division
McKenzie Construction Corporation is pleased to announce that R. Keith Hathaway has joined the firm as Executive Vice President. His efforts will be directed toward business development, procurement, and executive corporate management responsibilities from the Virginia headquarters. Hathaway was formerly the President and Owner of Hathaway-Duke Construction.
Robert “Bob” Norton has been promoted to President of the Elizabeth City based North Carolina Division. Norton previously served as Vice President of the firm, and directed operations in the North Carolina market. McKenzie Construction has operated in the state of North Carolina since 1986, and opened the division office in 2001.

McKenzie Construction Corporation was recently mentioned in a University of Virginia newsletter. UVa’s Department of Environmental Science had commissioned McKenzie Construction Corporation for the construction of their Long Term Ecological Research facility.

McKenzie Construction Corporation has been selected as the builder for the $16,000,000 School Plant Project for the City of Virginia Beach, Virginia. We are currently assisting the city with value engineering items to tailor the project to the budget.

McKenzie Construction Corporation is currently developing pricing for a hotel, residence hall, retail/showroom facility and other negotiated projects.
